Odeuropa has won a European Heritage Award / Europa Nostra Award 2025

by | Sep 4, 2025

I’m thrilled to share some amazing news: Odeuropa — the project I was lucky to work on from 2021-2023 — has just won a European Cultural Heritage Award!

Our incredible team of 40+ researchers poured their energy into uncovering and preserving Europe’s olfactory heritage and it’s such a joy to see this work celebrated at the European level.

The Awards Jury praised us for “filling a gap in scientific knowledge and creating new tools and data to support future research into historical scent and heritage.” Read more about the award and the other nominees here.

But wait, there’s more! Odeuropa is also in the running for the Public Choice Award 2025 (worth €10,000). If you love the idea of smell as heritage, sensory mining, or just think the world should care more about scent: cast your vote for Odeuropa here.

For everyone who is curious about the work we did on Odeuropa and the meaning of “Smell Culture” — the video above captures all of that beautifully!
