New Publication: Scents of Arabia – Interdisciplinary Approaches to Ancient Olfactory Worlds
I am thrilled to announce the publication of a newly published book, Scents of Arabia: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Ancient Olfactory Worlds, which is now available through Archaeopress. I was lucky enough to be able to contribute to this wonderful work by writing the outlook.
Co-edited by Barbara Huber and Arnulf Hausleiter, this collection brings together an inspiring group of researchers—including Kiersten Neumann, Sureshkumar Muthukumaran, Elisabeth Dodinet, William Gerard Zimmerle and many others. The book is a wonderful reflection of the Scents of Arabia special session —a gathering that holds a special place in my heart, as it was the first time I presented an academic paper. I was truly honored to take part in a conference where so many passionate researchers came together to explore the complex and fascinating roles that smell played in the ancient Arabian world.
Bridging biomolecular science, archaeology, and sensory studies, Scents of Arabia investigates how aromatics shaped trade, ritual, and daily life, revealing scent as a vital dimension of identity, communication, and heritage in antiquity.
A special thank you to Barbara and Arnulf for inviting me to contribute my paper!
